The Story of Ranswer

Around 2020, a series of ransomware attacks swept through corporations, healthcare, educational, and public institutions. Seeing this, a pentester decided that the vulnerability of centrally stored data must come to an end. Thanks to his operational, red, and blue teaming experience, the idea and toolkit of Ranswer quickly took shape.

The name is a wordplay (Ransomware + Answer), because we want to provide an answer to the ransomware problem. The initial prototypes were created as BASH and then Python scripts, but it became clear that this would not be a one-person project. Following friendly and professional discussions, a skilled and dedicated team fortunately stood behind the idea. The team included software developers, secdevops, full-stack web developers, and network systems engineers with over 15 years of experience, turning Ranswer from a hobby project into a mission and then a product.

Meanwhile, the concept won the ITBN pitch competition and attracted investor interest, but what we needed was not capital but time to perfect the solution. The goal remained to develop an out-of-the-box backup system that is fast, secure, includes defense mechanisms unknown to attackers, and does not lock clients' data assets into proprietary formats.

We know the question nowadays is no longer if a ransomware attack will happen, but how prepared you are when it does. Keeping this in mind, we built Ranswer not only to protect but also to provide the possibility of restarting quickly, efficiently, and predictably.

We are proud to say: a long road lies behind us, and thanks to that, we offer not just an idea but a working solution.
But since attackers never rest, neither can we! Continuing to think in terms of security, flexibility, and interoperability, we keep developing Ranswer so that it provides not only a technical but also a strategic advantage in cyberspace.
